Sankalp realizes the need to focus on and support pressing issues that go beyond the scope of the recognition efforts of its flagship Sankalp Social Enterprise Awards.
It runs recognition efforts from time to time to bring the spotlight to high impact social innovations.
In October 2012, Sankalp Forum partnered with Samriddhi to take the enabling ecosystem to the 8 low income states of India. This was a pioneering effort in the states of Bihar, Chattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal, which together make up a large bulk of the India population. The event took place in Patna, Bihar, and was also complemented by a rigorous awards process to discover and honor the most innovative, scalable enterprises from the regions.
A committee of sector experts and investors was put together to review nominations from over 50 applicants. Kanungo Institute of Diabetes Specialities emerged as the grand winner, and received a cash grant of INR 5 Lacs. In addition, there was also a Woman Impact Recognition bearing a cash award of INR 2 lakh, which was bagged by Greenway Grameen Infra.
South East Asia Awards:
Seeding the ground for enhanced cross-border learning, Sankalp Forum ventured into South East Asia in 2012. It went to Vietnam, Philippines, Cambodia, Indonesia and Thailand to discover and connect with social enterprises there.
This was with a view to further South-South collaboration in developing countries that share similar social and environmental challenges.
Enterprises from South East Asia that applied to these honors were put through a rigorous mentorship bootcamp at the Indian School of Business in Hyderabad, and a winner was selected by a panel of experts at the Sankalp Summit 2012.
