  1. How do I apply to Sankalp Awards 2014? Please submit your application online here by November 20, 2013. You may also view and download the application here to develop your application before submitting it online. No other methods of submission will be accepted.
  2. If my organization had applied to the earlier editions of Sankalp Awards, can it reapply? Yes, Sankalp accepts applications from past applicants and Finalists provided they are able to demonstrate significant progress since the original submission. Winners of previous Sankalp Awards are, however, not eligible to apply.
  3. Is it possible to submit the application in a language other than English? No, unfortunately we do not accept application forms in any other language apart from English.
  4. Why should I apply? By applying to the Sankalp Awards, you will have unparalleled access to a vibrant community of innovators, investors, experts and mentors that will work to help you take your enterprise to the next level.   5. Is there a registration fee or other expenses that I might have to incur during the awards process? No. Entry into the Sankalp Awards is free. Sankalp Forum has designed a host of activities to benefit your enterprise, but we do not anticipate that you will have to bear any expenses in availing of them. For Finalists who need to travel to attend jury meets, boot camps and the Awards ceremony, Sankalp Forum provides a reasonable stipend. Please refer to Rules here for more information.

  2. Which category does my enterprise fall within? Apply to the category that best fits your business model, based on the category descriptions below: Agriculture, Food & Livelihoods
    • Input supply to the agricultural sector
    • Farming-corporate and contract
    • Post-harvest management
    • Processing of agricultural produce
    • Marketing of agricultural products, both primary and value-added
    • Services related to the agricultural sector, including weather information and extension services
    • R&D into better on-farm technology to increase productivity
    • Production of handicrafts by artisan communities
    • Production of fabrics by handloom workers or weavers
    • Beneficiaries in economic sub sectors like sericulture, beekeeping, dairy development, dwarf bamboo, eco-tourism, aquaculture and other organic commodities

    Clean Energy/Technology

    • Design, manufacture, and distribution of products and services at the community level (e.g. grid connections)
    • Solar home systems at the household/business level
    • Design and manufacture of stoves, lanterns, etc. at the individual level
    • Carbon credits
    • Production of products/services that harness renewable materials or energy sources

    Education & Vocational Training

    • Methodologies, curriculums and programs that complement existing educational options (e.g. out of school education)

    • Vocational training, such as for jobs in leading industries with demand for skilled labour in India

    Health, Water & Sanitation

    • Provider of medical services such as hospitals, diagnostic chains, pharmacy chains, telemedicine, etc.

    • Providers of potable water
    • Waste management, wastewater recycling, sanitation, solid waste management, etc.

    Technology for development

    • Technology-based solutions in the areas of health, education, agriculture, etc.
    • Access to outsourced work opportunities through Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) services, combining employment for marginalized populations with
      training in long-term useful skills

    Financial Inclusion

    • Access to financial services like banking, insurance and housing finance at affordable costs for disadvantaged and low-income segments of society
    • Innovation in delivery of financial services, including mobile money, ICT, internet and kiosk banking, doorstep delivery and others
    • Extending credit facilities to unbanked segments of society
    • Development of credit rating tools for micro-enterprises and micro-entrepreneurs

    Women Empowerment

    • Innovation in products/services specifically designed to bring direct socio-economic benefits to women
    • Production and/or sourcing and/or marketing process directly generates employment of women
    • Access to essential products and services for women in underserved markets


  3. Can I apply to more than one category if my product/service fits in several? We encourage all applicants to pick the one category that is best aligned with your core business. However, you should additionally nominate yourself to the

    Woman Empowerment category, provided you can demonstrate that your enterprise significantly impacts and empowers women. If desired, enterprises may apply only to the Woman Empowerment category.
  4. Is there a revenue requirement for organizations applying for the Sankalp Awards? Enterprises with revenue of over INR 10 crores do not fall under the emerging category and therefore are not eligible to apply.
  5. What do you mean by a “for-profit” enterprise? Sankalp Awards only accept nominations from enterprises that are legally registered in India and structured as an entity that allows them to generate and distribute profits. The legal structure could be one of the following:
    • Private Ltd. Company
    • Sole Proprietorship
    • Partnership (includes Ltd. Liability Partnership)
    • Producer’s enterprise (must have a Pvt. Ltd. Subsidiary)
  6. My enterprise is not registered in India but has operations in India, can I still apply? No. To be eligible, the enterprise must be registered as a for-profit business in India by March 31, 2014. The enterprise must also have a registered PAN card by that date.
  7. I do not have all the documents required in the application form,could I still submit the form? Please submit your nomination form along with completed documents to the best of your ability. The Sankalp team will reach out to you if additional information is needed.
  8. How will you use the information I provide in my nomination form?All information provided in the nomination form or during the Awards process will be shared exclusively with the selection committee and the jury. No enterprise or personal information will be given to third parties without prior consent.

  2. I have submitted my application, now what? The next step is the selection of Semi-Finalists, which we will announced by first week of December. Please refer to the previous question for more details.
  3. What are the assessment criteria for Sankalp Awards 2014? Please review the assessment criteria here.
  4. Are there separate assessment criteria for the Women Empowerment category? In addition to the assessment criteria mentioned above, applicants to the Women Empowerment category must demonstrate how their enterprise impacts women beneficiaries. This could be through a business innovation, better access to products/services, increased livelihood opportunities, better employment options or other activities.
  5. How will I get to know if I am selected to be a Semi-Finalist, Finalist and/or Sankalp Awards Winner? We will announce the Semi-Finalists, Finalists and Winners on our website We will also inform the selected enterprise through email.
  6. I have been selected as a Semi-Finalist, now what? All Semi-Finalist enterprises will have to prepare a pitch book to submit it for the next round of selection within a stipulated timeline. Sankalp Forum will support the Semi-Finalist enterprises with access to mentors and structured webinars to help with the preparations. A Jury will review this pitch book to select Finalist Enterprises.
  7. I have been selected as a Finalist, now what?The Finalists enterprises will receive support through a structured program to prepare for Final Jury presentation. This will include:
    • Final Jury pitch preparation
    • A three-day capacity building residential boot camp
    • Strategic and one-on-one mentoring by investors and sector experts
    • Training on developing the elevator pitches
    • Media visibility and showcases
    • Access to Sankalp’s empanelled network of technical service providers

    In addition, Finalist Enterprise can garner public support through votes once the Sankalp Awards Online Voting opens.

  8. What is Online Voting and how does it impact my nomination? The Sankalp Awards Online Voting will open early February and will feature all Finalist Enterprises. You are encouraged to use this platform to promote your work and gather as many votes as possible. The online voting score will be weighted and added to the final score for Sankalp Awards Winner selection.
  9. I can’t attend the Sankalp Awards Residential Boot Camp or be physically present for the Jury pitches. It is mandatory for at least one member from each selected enterprise to represent the business and attend the boot camp and jury pitch.
  10. Who is on the Jury? An independent panel of experts that includes senior investors and entrepreneurs comprises the Sankalp Awards Jury for Finalist and Winner selection. The Jury panel for Sankalp Awards 2014 will be announced on the website (
  11. When will we find out if our enterprise is a Sankalp Awards Winner? Awards Winners will be announced at the Sankalp Unconvention Summit 2014 on April 9-11, 2014.

  1. Only applications that are submitted by the due date and meet all eligibility requirements will be considered for the
    Sankalp Awards 2014. Previous Sankalp Awards Winners are not eligible to apply to this year’s Awards.
  2. Applying enterprises must have registered as for-profit entities in India by March 31, 2014.
  3. All applying enterprises must have an Indian bank account and a PAN card by March 31, 2014.
  4. The applications will be judged by a panel of internal and external experts to select Semi-Finalists, Finalists and Winners. The Judges’ decisions will
    be final and binding, and the organizing committee does not take any responsibility for any disputes that arise.
  5. The information provided by the applicant will be kept strictly confidential and shared exclusively with the selection committee and Judges. No enterprise or personal information will be given to third parties without prior consent.
  6. At least one member of each Finalist enterprise’s team must be present and actively participate in all webinars, mentoring sessions, the Boot Camp, and other business development services included in the Awards application process.
  7. Sankalp Forum will pay only reasonable travel and board expenses for upto two representatives from each Finalist organization in order to attend theresidential Boot Camp and final Jury presentation. Travel expenses usually include: (1) round­trip plane (economy), train or bus fare (as determined by Sankalp Forum) for the Finalist representatives to travel from the major airport/train/bus station closest to the individual’s residence to the event venue; (2) double occupancy hotel accommodation for a reasonable duration; and (3) meals. Finalists are responsible for all other incidental and personal expenses.
  8. Finalists and Award winning organizations maybe subject to a legal due diligence review by our Awards partners. If the organization refuses to such a request, Sankalp Forum holds the right to select the Judges’ next highest score outcome to receive the benefits and/or Award.
  9. It is the sole responsibility of applying enterprises to utilize the in-kind, pro bono, and other benefits offered by Sankalp Forum and its partners.
  10. Sankalp Forum does not guarantee any equity and/or debt investment in an enterprise. Such investment, if available under the Awards benefit package, will be subject to the investment partner’s standard due diligence process and eligibility criteria. Financing opportunities awarded are not compulsory and, if offered and accepted by the Finalist and Awards recipients, will remain available for the period outlined by the partner.
  11. By participating in the Sankalp Awards, the enterprise agrees to Sankalp Forum’s and its partners’ use of its name, URL, photos and videos for promotional purposes on its website and in other promotional material.
  12. Any false information provided within the context of the Sankalp Awards by any enterprise concerning identity, mailing address, telephone number, email address, ownership of right, or non­compliance with these terms and conditions or the like may result in the immediate elimination of the enterprise from the Awards process.
  13. Sankalp Forum reserves the right at its sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify, or suspend the Sankalp Awards 2014. Sankalp Forum further reserves the right to disqualify any enterprise that tampers with the submission process, commits fraud or is in violation of criminal and/or civil laws.
  14. By submitting an application to the Sankalp Awards 2014, the enterprise provides its full consent and acceptance of the above terms and conditions.
